Checkers, Wild, Soundtigers & Bears all continue to struggle on a Sunday in the AHL

Yesterday in the American Hockey League, seven games were played with four of those games being decided by 1 goal or more. The Abbotsford Heat have played 3 more games then anyone in the AHL but are making the best of it with at this point the 2nd best points percentage in the league earning 35 pts or .761 % of 46 possible points. Winning yesterday 2-1 over the the Iowa Wild was their 13th win in the last 14 games and 17th win overall, 4 wins then a handful of teams through out the league. Albany quietly wins their 4th in a row, Griffins Mitch Callahan performs a “trick” on the Mil-Ads

Last night in the American Hockey League there was four games on tap that saw two shut outs and a quiet 4 game winning streak begins in the capital of New York state. The Albany Devils are quietly putting together a nice little run that includes shutting out the Hartford Wolfpack twice in their last two meetings, including last night’s meeting at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY. Checkers lose 7th straight, Marlies take 1st in the North Division

A Tuesday night saw 4 games in the American Hockey League including the recently dethroned longest streak of the season at 9 games, Abbotsford Heat still on the road this time in Milwaukee to take on the Admirals. Two of the contests were decided by 1 goal while the other two saw a little but of a rout. Bryzgalov turns Heat cold, Wolves/B-Sens extend streaks & 4 shootouts

Saturday night in the American Hockey League, the league saw 28 of it’s 30 teams in action in cities all across North America. Four of the fourteen games were played to a shootout, only one team did not score at least 1 goal, eight games were decided by 1 goal and two longer streaks were continued while the longest of the season was ended. All it took was a hat-trick by Ben Street & a 48 save performance by Nathan Lawson as the Abbotsford Heat extended their winning streak to 9 games as the Binghamton Senators moved into a tie of the East Division with 20 pts with a 5 game win streak of their own. At the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, the Barons were playing host to the red hot Abbotsford Heat last night, a Heat team that had won a league high this season, 8 games. The American Hockey League saw two games on a Thursday night the Hershey Bears in Charlotte, North Carolina to see if they could win 2 in 2 days vs the Charlotte Checkers while the Toronto Marlies made a stop in Cleveland, Ohio to meet up with the Lake Erie Monsters. The Hershey Bears now have points in their last 5 games after last nights 8-1 win over the Charlotte Checkers. Hump day in the American Hockey League can see anywhere on average of 5 to 9 games played through out the league and yesterday was no different with 7 games that were played. Two games were played very early in the day Manchester and Hamilton billed as Education School Day games all though only one of those home teams got a win. The Manchester Monarchs in 13 years of being in the American Hockey League have only had 3 head coaches, Bruce Boudreau (4 seasons), Jim Hughes (1 season) and Mark Morris (8 seasons). AHL teams honor Veterans all weekend long & two games on Monday

All weekend, the American Hockey League, it’s teams, fans and players have celebrated, honored the military here in the U.S. as the nation celebrates Veteran’s Day. Military Appreciation Day games were played all weekend long through out the AHL including two games played in Upstate NY and Western NY. The Albany Devils hosted on this Veterans Day the Bridgeport Soundtigers who the day before ended the 6 game winning streak of the Adirondack Phantoms. The Devils and the Soundtigers scored 5 goals between the 2 teams before the end of the 1st period. Devils Captain Joe Whitney (1st 7:00) started the scoring off first with a shot that found its way past Soundtigers goal-tender Anders Nilsson. On a busy Sunday afternoon, the American Hockey League saw 8 games played with 1 streak ending and two streaks continuing. The Abbotsford Heat have now matched the Grand Rapids Griffins who did not play yesterday with a streak of 7 games as the two teams are playing better then any other two in the AHL early on this season. Playing in the 2nd of 2 games in as many nights, the Heat once again hosted the Toronto Marlies. A Night of Streaks for Abbotsford, Adirondack & Binghamton

The American Hockey League saw another 11 games played last night and saw two sets of winning streaks hit 6 games. The Binghamton Senators win streak did not hit 6 games (but did hit 3) however for Stephane Da Costa, a 5 point (2+3) night was in the cards as the B-Sens extended their win streak to 3 games with a 7-3 win over the visiting Rochester Americans on the back end of a home and home series. The 3rd year pro, Da Costa factored in on 5 of the 7 B-Sens goals on the evening including the 1st 3 goals that put the B-Sens atop of the Amerks by the mid way point of the 2nd period.
