WHALE ANNOUNCE 2012-13 PRESEASON SCHEDULE *           *           *           * Includes Local Dates in Cromwell and at Trinity College HARTFORD, August 30, 2012:  The Connecticut Whale today announced its preseason game schedule, in which the team will prep for the upcoming 2012-13 American Hockey League season. GRIFFINS ADD TWO TO STAFF GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Thursday announced the hiring of Andrew Stegehuis as assistant equipment manager and Annette Niergarth as corporate sales activation coordinator. Stegehuis served as a locker room attendant for the Griffins from 2004-11 before spending the 2011-12 season as the equipment manager for the USHL’s Chicago Steel. He has also assisted the Chicago Blackhawks during past prospect camps, training camps and playoff runs, including the team’s 2010 Stanley Cup championship. A native of Grandville, Mich., Stegehuis is currently attending Davenport University to pursue a degree in sports management. Meyer Named Monarchs Assistant Coach New Hampshire native played in over 281 NHL games MANCHESTER, NH – The Manchester Monarchs, the top affiliate of the 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, have named Freddy Meyer as the club’s Assistant Coach, Monarchs General Manager Ron Hextall announced today. RIVERMEN SIGN BLUES PICK SERGEI ANDRONOV St. Louis third-round pick to make North American debut Peoria Rivermen General Manager Kevin McDonald announced today that the club has signed forward Segei Andronov to an American Hockey League contract for the 2012-13 season. Andronov, 23, was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the third round (#78 overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. The Russian-born winger has spent the last four seasons in the Kontinental Hockey League. Last year with CSKA Moscow, Andronov appeared in 29 games and posted a goal and two assists with four penalty minutes. JERSEY CONTEST WINNER ANNNOUNCED Ryan Malaschak of Belleville, Ill. submitted winning design The first-ever Peoria Rivermen jersey design contest received over 1,400 votes during a three-week period and a design submitted by Ryan Malaschak has been crowned the winner. With 40 percent of the total votes, Malaschak’s intricate anchor logo edged out the three other finalists. The jerseys will be worn by the Rivermen in their game on Dec. 15 at Carver Arena against the Milwaukee Admirals.
